Does Prayer Matter?

"After surveying Jesus' practice of prayer, I realize that his example does answer one important question about prayer: Does it matter? When doubts creep in and I wonder whether prayer is a sanctified form of talking to myself, I remind myself that the Son of God, who had spoken worlds into being and sustains all that exists, felt a compelling need to pray. He prayed as if it made a difference, as if the time he devoted to prayer mattered every bit as much as the time he devoted to caring for people." Phillip Yancey,

Prayer-Does It Make a Difference?

FAITH PROMISE; Promises a Blessing

  • The Executive Council of the Nebraska NMI is encouraging every church to hold a Faith Promise event annually.
  • Your church will be blessed as:
  • You pray about the event
  • You plan a simple or unique event. Go to nazarenemissions.org for Faith Promise ideas. Missionaries on deputation will often hold
Faith Promise services if you request it.
  • You are directed by God in what he would have you to commit.
  • You and the church rejoice in His bounty.

Missionaries around the world are blessed by His provisions.

Deut. 1:2 says, "And all of these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of the sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor
."

Luke 4:18

The Cross ---Seize It! Share It! Make It Yours!

"Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, 'One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up your cross, and follow me'" (Mark 10:21, NKJV).

Reflections From My Heart On the World Evangelism

Without the World Evangelism Fund, how could we evangelize millions of people each year, equip thousands of leaders each year, and organize hundreds of churches each year? The generous gifts of Nazarene Churches worldwide are our lifeline. During the past 28 days in 13 District Assemblies I have heard similar gratitude expressed by many pastors. In each report and testimony, we heard, saw and sensed the incredible inspiration of World Evangelism Fund (WEF) investments.

Perhaps no other denomination supports global mission strategy more effectively than the Church of the Nazarene. No other financial plan invests more productively in life transformation than WEF giving. No other deity worshipped by mankind but our God is willing, able, and ready to bless people and churches that give so that the lost, last, and least will know Christ.

The World Evangelism Fund multiplies through collective sacrifice, corporate generosity, and accountable distribution. We seldom depend on extraordinary gifts from a few five-star givers. We thrive on unusual sacrifice from multiple, faithful givers like you and me. Together we impact the world for Jesus.

How long has it been since you reviewed the amazing outcomes of WEF? Do you rejoice in the ways God is blessing the world through WEF

Where Mission Education Starts Today!

Did you know:
The basic traits of a child's character are formed before the age of 6?
Major interests in life are taking permanent shape by age 12?

According to the George Barna Research Group, children between the ages of 5 and 13 have a 32 percent probability of accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior. That likelihood drops to 4 percent for teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18. Children are most likely to hear God's call to full-time Christian ministry (missionaries, ministers, etc.) between the ages of 4-14. (Christian Today) Missiologists refer to this period of time as the "4/14 Window".

Why involve kids in missions?

Children are sensitive to God. They can begin learning about God's heart for missions at an early age. Children easily understand the concept of compassion. We must sow the seeds of mission interest at an early age if we expect to reap missionary recruits and strong mission supporters in the years ahead.

World Evangelism Fund Supports:

Outreach ministry in approximately 150 world areas
Approximately 792 missionaries and their children
Monthly pensions for appproximatley 300 retired missionary units
("units" consists of couple and single missionaries)
More than 27,000 students in 48 educational institutions worldwide
More than 60 medical clinics and 2 hospitals
Literature in 95 languages
Facilitation of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, Work and Witness, Alabaster and World Mission Broadcast
Administrative costs tofacilitate ministries and services to 14,043 churches and 3,955 missions around the wolrd

Rational for Change to Mission Priority One Requirements

Mission Priority One (MPO) was revised and adopted unanimously by the General NMI Council in June 2005 (see MPO requirements). It will become part of the NMI Handbook and Constitution for 2005-09. The General NMI Council reaffirmed the value of Mission Priority One as a basis for accountability on the local and district levels in reaching the core objectives of NMI, which reflect the NMI mission statement. The means by which the four objectives are measured, remain the same for three objectives: prayer, children and youth, and giving.

However, the measurement for global awareness (mission education) has been changed. The rationale for the changes is two fold: (1) to better reflect how the 21st century church accomplishes its mission, and (2) to simplify the process of measurement and accountability. While the term "global awareness" will be used for MPO, "mission education" will still be used in other contexts (e.g., mission education resources). While the change to the MPO requirements eliminated mission education credits, each church is still expected to report the number of books "read" each year. Districts and local churches may establish "reading" goals, if so desired.
